31st December

On Thursday, I went out shooting my the first and second scene of my film in the woods.

It was challenging but it went very well and my little brother and his friend acted brilliantly. My older brother supported me by holding the boom mike and helping set up the scene. Everyone was very helpful.

Im going to inclose some photos that were taken during production.

20th December

During today, I have collected all my images of shots I'm going to use for my film in my Production Portfolio. This for a little photo storyboard. I used my little brother and his friend as the characters in the shot. I took these photos on the 17th.

I think they came out successfully because they show clearly of what the shot's going to look like.

For my review of progress and feedback, I will write in my blog of what people thought and how I'm doing through out production.

16th December

Iv just posted my Film and TV Practical Skills off, so I hope Bill likes it.

Yesterday, I went location scouting with my older brother for locations to make my short film. We travled down to a place called Burntwood, which is close to where we live. It was a great success. Iv taken photos of where I can film and my brother took note of where it is.

To make my film shorter, there has to be cut outs of the script and keep the best parts to fit it into 10 minutes. I need to finish my Production schedule and redo some of my shot list.

Film and TV History

Recently, Iv finished my module of Film and TV History. I researched on the history of film cameras. It did take a while to do and it was quite challenging of finding the many dates of the history,  but now its in Moodle.

The main thing I've learned about this module is how technology keeps changing all the time. It sounded competitive through out the years because people kept making different and better cameras in different shapes and sizes.

It was very interesting finding out about the cameras in the 1800's hundreds of how they worked. You look it back then and it did seem very complicated of how they worked, where as today, its a bit more simplified.

I have now got to create my presentation on the history of cameras when I get back on the 4th.

6th of December

For the past few days I have written a script for a short film I'm going to make over the Christmas break. I have just finished it.

I'v just got to edit a few parts and then I'm going to post it to Moodle.

I lent a copy to my parents and they both liked it very much. This made it a success.

Creating the shot lists is my next step :)

6th of December

I did forget to mention earlier. I went to Stafford Uni campus and went to a Director's Workshop, my brother came with me for support. There was a director, a cinematographer, an actor and an actress there. They told us their experiences of their roles and gave us advices etc.. They gave out a script and the actors had to read it and act it out. We volunteered to be a director and cinematographer and we director how the actors should act their roles. This has been very useful because they gave very constructive criticism.

This has been usefull, but I wish they could of told us how to direct with the crew, the sound and the lighting etc.

19th November

Today I have finished my report on Copyright. It was a success and it is now posted to Google Docs.

My next tasks are sorting all my work files into one report for each module, my script writing exercises and start my paper work on my short film I'm planning on making.

16th November

During today, we learnt things about Copyright and copyright laws. Our task is to write a report about Copyright.

With Scriptwriting, we went through a couple of booklets that takes us through exercises. For example, we read through a scene of the film V for Vendetta and from that, we had to write on what genre we think it is by the scene. My task is to finish more of two booklets.

In the evening, I completed one booklet but the other I struggled with. I struggled because there was a question of what happens in 3 acts of the films The Dark Knight, Casino Royal and Ghostbusters. I have seen these films before and I love them, but there is alot that happens in The Dark Knight and Casino Royal. There are some parts that I didn't remember. To help me, I watched the entire film of Casino Royal and wrote notes of important scenes that happen in the 3 acts. 

During my time off, I will do the same as I did with Casino Royal, by watching The Dark Knight and I will take notes.

There is an exercise where Iv got to read the scripts of the film American Beauty. Iv been advised for an easier option by watching the film itself. I will write the questions down and answer them by watching the film.

18th November

During today. My group and I shot a short video for a one day project called Life in a Day.

One of my group came up with the idea to write our concerns of the economy of our country on large pieces of white paper. His idea was to edit the footage by showing each person differently with their concerns.

I think this came out a success because it would be affective by showing the signs with no dialogue, I think this way, the message could go across in a unique way.

Hopefully the people who run the project will like it.

10 November

Today, I have written my report on The Codes of Conduct in the media industry. I had to describe what's in the code of conduct, who supervises it, what effects it  has and media freedom etc.

I think it did go really well and I did learn from it about the code of conduct.

It was quite trying to research, but then I found something called Google Books, which I think could be rather helpful for the future.

So my work for that is done :)

9 November

During today. I went through in Production Management about the Code of Conduct in media and what its about. It went fine but it was quite hard to understand.

James has asked us to write a report on The Code of conduct. I used my voice recorder and he went through of what I need to do which I thought really helped :) and I have made a start on it.

Also, I had scriptwriting with Dave. He looked through my work and really liked it. He added constructive criticism on my documentary script to add more angles, sounds and leads to particular questions.

He also looked through my film script and he said to add more description of characters feelings and settings. I have taken these on board and I'm going to add them when I write these amendments. :)

8th November

I just finished writing my report on Health and Safety on Production.

I think it came out well but there was alot of information that was important it went onto a second page, we're supposed to do one. Sorry James, I hope you like though. But I think I covered the information pretty well.

I learned that there are so many health and safety precautions to be taken. But they gotta be done very everyone's welfare, which I completely understand.

This will definitely help me my future in film making. :)

7th Novemer

During today I have written my report on sound for practical technology skills.

I think I did the best I can and it came out as a success.

I had trouble with the library on Moodle because there was a particular book I wanted to look at but you can only buy it. So I had to browse the internet for answers and I eventually found them.

I did learn a lot more about particular microphones. I learned the differences, patterns and what situations would each one be used in. This I thought was quite interesting.

Tomorrow I got to do Health and Safety for Production Management.

30th October

During the evening, I have written the rest of my short film and documentary scripts. I thought they came out successfully.

I struggled with the ending of my film because I felt I needed to research more of the topic I chosen, which was exorcism. I then came out with another ending, which is when the group begin to exorcise the demon, it immediately kills off the two characters and possesses the main character. I think this would be affective because it would be realistic and authentic.

When writing the documentary script, I thought it would be harder than I thought because I'v never written a full documentary script before.

For future reference, I will research more of the topic I choose and do the work earlier in the week instead of later.

20th October

During today, I have written some of a short film script for Script Writing.

My idea for this short film is I want it to a Horror and to be set in college. The story is about a naive student, messed around with an Ouija board.  He is at college one evening and then gets chased by the spirit  and all of a sudden dies.  His friends find that the board sends out a spirit that kills by a single touch. His friends must try and get rid of the spirit by exorcism.

The script is going good sofar, I have written the first scene and started the second scene. I have got 2 more to go.

19th October

Today, my group and I did our Powerpoint presentation to Argos employees on what we want to do for their charity for young people with cancer.

We told them that we wanted to shoot their dance competition rehearsals. They named this event Strictly Come Argos. We also asked for requirements, for example transport to the event.

I think the presentation went very well and the employees and everyone else seemed to like it.

18th October 2011

I started writing my report on Lighting. I had to describe the parts of lighting for example, spotlight, backlight etc. I also had to describe low and high contrast, the feel and the look and how they cause emotion.

Just finished to day. Some parts I thought were hard, but I got there at the end :)

Friday 14th October 2011

During today at uni, I went to a meeting to with my friend Fionna to meet someone in a railway company that educates employees the railway system.  Went pretty well. The woman, who is also Fionna  was very nice but it was hard to grasp all the details.

Fionna and I were asked to make a video about the GoToTraining website. We created a proposal for her and sent it off to Fionna from the company.

We then had to think of what the video can look like. So we asked our lecturer about what recording programme we could use, he said he'll help us which is great.

After that, my group for the Argos video created a presentation for what would like to do for the video for Wednesday. We discussed of how we can do the presentation. We agreed that we can take turns of reading the parts, which will be cool.

I made a start on writing my proposal for film and tv history of researching and making a presentation of history of cameras. I made a start, so I'll finish at the weekend. :)

What I'm looking forward to:

I'm looking forward to filming anything that I would be asked to do.

I'm looking forward to making a video for Argos on a Cancer Charity event. One of the events will be doing a dance competition in Strictly Come Dancing format. A college and I will be filming the rehearsals, which should be great fun.

Uni: Achievements

I would like to achieve on my knowledge of cameras and how they work. 

Also I would like to more about script writing, Film and TV history and Production Management.

I'm sure I'll learn more as I go through on the course.

I'v been busy researching and writing about cameras: What features they have and how they work.
I recently been researching on particular history of film cameras. I recently written a story to write a script on for tomorrow.

I recently written a report on Development, Pre Production, Production and Post Production and Commissioning in the film industry. This is all what they are about

Uni: What I'v learned

I'v just started a Foundation Degree in Film and TV Production and I'm loving it sofar.

I'v learned how film cameras work and how the lighting works
I'v learned how alot of the Production process works
I have also learned how to gain ideas to script writing and different styles of scripts (detailed scripts and less detailed)
